What legalism is and is not...

"Legalism is not a matter of being conservative or being strict in your lifesyle. Legalism is an attitude that enjoys rules for their own sake and puts rules above the people they are meant to benefit." - Kenneth Schenck

What holiness is...

"Holiness is conformity to the nature of God. It is likeness to God as he is revealed in Jesus ... Holiness ... is not maturity, but purity: a clean heart in which the Holy Spirit dwells, filling it with pure, tender, and constant love to God and people." - Samuel Logan Brengle

Holiness...

"Holiness is not some lofty experience, unattainable except to those who can leap the stars, but it is rather a lowly experience, which lowly people in the lowly walks of life can share with Jesus, by letting His mind be in them." - Samuel Logan Brengle

Samuel Logan Brengle's books for $.99!

Samuel Logan Brengle (1860-1936) was a holiness preacher and commissioner in the Salvation Army. He is also one of my favorite authors on the doctrine of entire sanctification and the life of holiness. His books are easily understood and clearly explain the doctrine and experience of entire sanctification. If you have a Kindle you can find many of his books available for $.99 by clicking here.

When he was asked the secret to living a life of holiness he replied, "Keep in the will of God, obey Him, seek Him daily, waiting at His gates. Read the Bible regularly. Never neglect secret prayer. Keep testifying to the grace bestowed upon you. Help others."

Robert Booth wrote a nice article about Brengle a couple of years ago - read it here.

Works of the Flesh or Walking in the Spirit?

Read the Scripture below from Galatians 5. Which list is your life in? Is the way you respond to issues and problems and disagreements according to the Flesh or the Spirit? When someone does something you don't agree with, how do you respond? Do you respond in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? Or do you respond with enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalry, dissension, and division? Is your life governed by works of the Flesh or are you walking in the Spirit?

16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. (Galatians 5:16-26)

10 Myths about Introverts

Myth #1 – Introverts don’t like to talk.
This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk unless they have something to say. They hate small talk. Get an introvert talking about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days.

Myth #2 – Introverts are shy.
Shyness has nothing to do with being an Introvert. Introverts are not necessarily afraid of people. What they need is a reason to interact. They don’t interact for the sake of interacting. If you want to talk to an Introvert, just start talking. Don’t worry about being polite.

Myth #3 – Introverts are rude.
Introverts often don’t see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. They want everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so Introverts can feel a lot of pressure to fit in, which they find exhausting.

Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people.
On the contrary, Introverts intensely value the few friends they have. They can count their close friends on one hand. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you a friend, you probably have a loyal ally for life. Once you have earned their respect as being a person of substance, you’re in.

Myth #5 – Introverts don’t like to go out in public.
Nonsense. Introverts just don’t like to go out in public FOR AS LONG. They also like to avoid the complications that are involved in public activities. They take in data and experiences very quickly, and as a result, don’t need to be there for long to “get it.” They’re ready to go home, recharge, and process it all. In fact, recharging is absolutely crucial for Introverts.

Myth #6 – Introverts always want to be alone.
Introverts are perfectly comfortable with their own thoughts. They think a lot. They daydream. They like to have problems to work on, puzzles to solve. But they can also get incredibly lonely if they don’t have anyone to share their discoveries with. They crave an authentic and sincere connection with ONE PERSON at a time.

Myth #7 – Introverts are weird.
Introverts are often individualists. They don’t follow the crowd. They’d prefer to be valued for their novel ways of living. They think for themselves and because of that, they often challenge the norm. They don’t make most decisions based on what is popular or trendy.

Myth #8 – Introverts are aloof nerds.
Introverts are people who primarily look inward, paying close attention to their thoughts and emotions. It’s not that they are incapable of paying attention to what is going on around them, it’s just that their inner world is much more stimulating and rewarding to them.

Myth #9 – Introverts don’t know how to relax and have fun.
Introverts typically relax at home or in nature, not in busy public places. Introverts are not thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. If there is too much talking and noise going on, they shut down. Their brains are too sensitive to the neurotransmitter called Dopamine. Introverts and Extroverts have different dominant neuro-pathways. Just look it up.

Myth #10 – Introverts can fix themselves and become Extroverts.
Introverts cannot “fix themselves” and deserve respect for their natural temperament and contributions to the human race. In fact, one study (Silverman, 1986) showed that the percentage of Introverts increases with IQ.

I got this list from here who got it from here :-)

I smile...and cry

I smile to myself this morning as I watch my little girl wandering around our living room. She's figuring things out - exploring her world. And of course she's talking - some words I understand, but most I don't. At times I have to correct her - for her own good of course. But, as I watch her she fills my heart with joy. She's our miracle. There's nothing in the world I would exchange for her - nothing. So, I smile.

As I smile to myself the Lord reminds me that He smiles about me as well. That I bring joy to His heart. Yes I stumble. Yes He has to discipline me because He wants want is best for me. But, I am His treasure. Not because I'm anything but simply because He loves me - He gave His everything for me. Gently He reminds me that He too smiles when watching me stumble through life trying to figure things out.

So now as I smile to myself watching my little girl there are tears in my eyes...because He is smiling.
